Almost Christmas again!?!

December 19th, 2007

I feel like it was just last year and we were about to celebrate our first Christmas with a brand new baby Emma. Now it’s a year later and she is running all over the place. I just gave a bag of winter clothes to a new baby who lives below us. It seems like it was just yesterday when we were receiving clothes from other older babies. It’s fun to watch Emma grow over the past year, but I kind of miss it when she was really tiny. On the plus side, I bought her the cutest Christmas dress from Target. It was on sale for $12 and I bought some really cute dress shoes to match it. I’m sure that she will love it.

My boss mentioned to us the other day that certain deodorants with aluminum zirconium have been known to cause breast cancer. I threw mine out because it has that in it. Mike’s Gilette was fine though. I’m not worried that I’ve been using it, but I’d rather be safe than sorry from now on.

My New Job

July 14th, 2007

I had my first training day today. It was very long and I absorbed a ton of interesting information on Boots products. I’m very glad that I have this job because there is so much I have to learn about make-up and just general care for your face. After working in a retirement living home I’ve seen how saggy and wrinkled an elderly person’s face can get. I would rather start taking care of the skin on my face now, than start the process after the damage has already set in. I think that it is very important to keep up your appearance. I work again tomorrow, as I will be most every weekend from now on. I’m very excited about my new job and the new abilities I will gain from working for Boots.

10 Months!

July 13th, 2007

Emma hit the 10 month mark yesterday. Only 2 more months until her first birthday! It’s time to start planning her birthday party. She is more lively than ever. She is a very social baby and loves to get people’s attention. She waves at everyone when we go out and yells at people from out our window. She is very excited to meet new people…as long as she is in mommy’s arms or someone she knows well. It’s very exciting to see her personality develop. She is a very outgoing person who loves to go out and about. Emma is discovering new foods every day. Her favorite foods are soup, hot dogs, yogurt, Graduates Crunchies, Cheerios, noodles, and peas. She is a bit of a picky eater, but after some patience and a few tries we find something for her to eat each meal.
Emma can almost walk now. She can stand up all by herself and has attempted a couple of steps. She’s not quite there, but will be soon. She is so proud of herself when she can keep her balance. She waves her arms to keep her balance and it is kind of funny to watch. We are preparing for her to start walking by putting door knob gaurds on the doors to keep her from getting outside. She is developing swiftly and we want to be one step ahead of her. She is still trying to talk. We can make out some words, but it is still mostly babble.
And, of course she loves to get into everything that she is not supposed to. Her favorite electronic is my laptop. This, naturally, is not a toy. This is where having a nursery is a wonderful thing. Our old apartments were so small we did not have a nursery. Now we have a room that we can let her crawl around in that is very safe. She is also getting to the age where she is interested in other children. She knows that they are like her in some way and is very happy to see them. There is a little girl that is often outside of the Galarneau house that Emma loves to say hi to. She also met a couple of nice girls while I was getting my wedding dress fitted. It will be nice to see her get some little friends someday.

This weekend is going to be a busy one because I start my new job. I’m very excited to work for Boots (and a little nervous). I have to give perfect strangers make overs and that is something I have never done before. Although I’m nervous, I’m looking forward to learning and trying out something new. I enjoy a good challenge. This is a great opportunity for us and I am willing to try it out because of this.

Just one more Uncle

June 24th, 2007

We were at the Nelson’s house tonight. I asked Rhea to ask Erik’s brother Kirk if he wanted to be Emma’s uncle too (just like Erik is). He said yes and now Emma has yet another uncle! I may have lost my family, but our family is still large. Emma has plenty of people who love her and that means the world to me. It will be hard for her to ever feel unloved because her family is so big. Some say blood is thicker than water, but I have learned that is not the case. Anyone can be a part of your family.

A few of Emma’s words:

June 9th, 2007

cracker
book (we were at Miim’s and Papa’s house and whenever she crawled towards to the books she kept repeating “book book book”)
mom
mama
dada
daddy
yeya (most likely rhea)
bottle

It finally feels like spring!

April 20th, 2007

The high today is 73 degrees. It’s time to bring back out my flipflops. Emma loves the nice warm weather. Our renewal of vows is just around the corner. We are meeting with the pastor this week. We have the place booked and now we just have to get to the invitations out. I’ll be glad once it’s all over since it is so much planning. It is rough to plan two weddings two years in a row (but worth it).

Superman Works at the Deli

Got a new undercover job
I make sandwiches during the day
and fight crime at night
I serve soup to angry customers
I serve justice to angry villians
I smile politely every day
and smile satisfactorily every night
This is life at Macy’s deli

I had to write this for my creative writing class.

I’m so tired

April 11th, 2007

I was walking out to our car this morning and heard someone speaking over a walkie talkie below me. My first thought was “cops!” Sure enough, there were two cops knocking at someone’s door in my apartment building. They sounded pissed off because the person would not open their door. When I passed the door all I saw was the door closing. I have absolutely no idea what happened there. It seems odd that the police actually went in the apartment. When I went outside I saw a fire truck parked outside our building. It made me a bit nervous to see all of this. It could have been nothing or it could have been something big; I dont know. I guess that’s Minneapolis for you.

Our cat has a cold. She has been sneezing and sniffling a lot recently. I think that she got a cold because our heat is never on! I keep calling the landlords about this but they tell maintenance about it. It works once after maintenance is informed and then it stops working again. I am so sick of being in a freezing cold apartment. You would think that they would be more motivated to fix it since we have a baby, but it doesnt seem to make a difference. My father was an electrician and when he got a call that someone’s heat was out he left to fix it, no matter what time of day it was. It is important to have the heat working in MN!!! Mike asked someone else in the building if their heat had been on and they told him that it had not been. I really hope that they are complaining about it too. When I called they told me that the landlord that lived here had not said anything about it. Even Mike has been cold and he stays warm more easily than I do! We have our radiators set exactly the way that they are supposed to be and they are not on.
