If Steve Reich Was Happy…

He might sound something, a little something, like this:
If Steve Reich Was Happy (mp3)
If Steve Reich Was Happy (Ogg Vorbis)
Also, I’d like to digress: “Ogg Vorbis” sounds like it should be an unmentionable bit of human anatomy. Not an audio format. No matter how often I say “Ogg Vorbis”, I still lower my voice as if I’m afraid my parents might overhear.

Ghetto (it’s a new song, it’s been too long, etc, etc)

Well, I got the itch tonight and had to relieve it. The result is the following song, a very rough demo type thing. Before posting, however, I have to express thanks to the people whose work enabled this:
- Ubuntu, the best operating system for me, bar none. Seriously, try it out, see if you like it.
- Hydrogen, a wonderful little drum machine. One of my favourite applications.
- Ardour, a digital audio workstation. Free, open-souce, and I’m pretty sure I’m only using about 1% of its functionality. Is better for me than Audacity was ;)
With no further ado (as none is needed) I present the song as both MP3 and Ogg Vorbis.

Yep, it’s that time again. And I’ll spill the beans: this week’s FMT comes after several hours of weeding out the not-quites and so-not-going-to-happens. I like doing this, but seriously, people. Get on the ball.
In any case, today’s FMT features another instrumental release, Jean Nine’s Whispers and the Storm. But this one you’ll have to listen to for yourself: don’t just take my word for it. It begins with some goth-tinged synth, ventures into postrock sprinkled with piano and strings, and then for the coup de grâce switches to triphop before settling back down to its postrock underpinnings.
That was a long sentence.
One note: the files are encoded as Ogg Vorbis, so you’re going to need a player capable of handling this fine format. WinAmp full edition, for instance. Also those of you using Linux will notice that Ogg Vorbis support is generally built right in.
