There is a heaven we haven’t explored
lying in wait for the taking.

or, it appears someone has been reading

or perhaps he made it all up,
much like Bob Dylan made himself up,
stepped into a booth, and made music
I could one day be compared to.

Entering a life of grime:
finishing and re-finishing the
surface and re-surfacing sometime
later:

A life of calling and recalling
a different conversation:

A life of treating and retreating
to healthier ground:

A life of warding and rewarding
a horror well avoided:

A life of tropes and repetition and
failing to ask dirty little questions.
