Three Hymns
1.
This is how I would fall asleep:
close to your thrumming husk
elsewhere in dreams,
even if sleep
never comes.
2.
You enter rooms and
the axis grinds to halt:
plummeting stomach and
blood pressure on the rise.
Something in your eyes says,
It’s spinning up like a record player.
It’s playing our tune.
3.
I have a tune for you,
a bottle to contain you,
a curtain to pull around you,
a magic trick to turn you
into something else you
have never.
I have a song for you,
a state of shock for you,
a lyric flame singing you,
a ridiculous limerick about you,
rhymes and lilting rhythms you
have never.
I think I’ll play for you
a chord I have build for you,
arpeggios rising up to you,
arpeggios falling away from you,
turns of phrase, groaning, you
have never.
I think I’ll whisper you
a something to cover you,
a blanket to warm you,
a down, an up, a level you,
you, you, you, you, you
have never.
