Comment spam.

daniel on May 18th 2006

I get so much comment spam it’s not a funny little joke anymore. Seriously, I must get over 50 per day. That’s almost as much email spam as I get on my Gmail account!

This is, I think, more proof that spammers do indeed rule the internet.

Try getting 692, which is what I got yesterday … on just one of my Weblogs. :)

You need to set up a verification of some sort. That’s what I had to do on my blog. It sucks for all us poor commenters but sometimes our existance must be defined by the unsavory members of society.

Dave, the spam isn’t actually getting through. But it’s crazy enough… yesterday I got 350-some spam. A sudden exponential increase and I have no idea why.

It’s probably because you wrote a post with the word Spam in it. Spam, like the Devil, gets attracted when you use it’s name :)

I had to set up Spam Karma on my site again yesterday. So far I had made it since my last upgrade without doing it. 1,000 comments in 3 days changed my mind, though. You’re right; it is getting worse.

Scott, I was wondering about that. I had a huge increase in spam after the post about the spam. Is it co-incidence? Or do the spammers troll for blogs that complain and then punish them? :)

Roger, you pretty much can’t have a WP blog these days without something like Spam Karma being set up. It’s a great program, though, eh?

To quote some mafia movie, “It’s just business. Nothing personal.”

Seriously, they don’t care. They’re just looking for targets of opportunity. Caring means that they would be inefficient.
